Skip To Renew develops petroleum-free, non-toxic, and biodegradable lubricants for industrial applications, while striving to use 100% plant and algae oils cultivated in the US.
Skip the Petroleum, Skip the Toxins,
Skip the Disposal Costs
Skip To Renew develops sustainably sourced and cost-effective lubricants and greases that are petroleum-free, non-toxic, biodegradable, and made from USA- grown plant oils, which are used in heavy machinery and other industrial applications. Our products enable our industrial systems to transition to a clean, post-petroleum economy, with the same performance and cost as current petroleum alternatives.
How it changes the world
Every machine with gears, engine or moving parts utilizes lubricants for protection and ease of movement. Over 90 percent of lubricants are petroleum-based. At these products’ end-of-life, over 50 percent emit toxic carcinogens when they are leaked, spilled, or burned. Because global use of bio-lubricants is less than 10 percent of the market and through experience with customers, we can assume that every gallon of bio-lubricant sold displaces petroleum products.
Skip To Renew’s industrial lubricants and their end-of-life uses could significantly reduce the industrial sector’s greenhouse and petroleum-related environmental & social impacts. We also will indirectly improve agricultural practices by encouraging growth of sustainable, renewable feedstocks and reducing toxic exposures to leaked, spilled, or incinerated lubricants — therefore increasing quality of life for people and ecosystems who do not directly interact with our products.
If you win?
Winning the Global Forum will accelerate our journey and make it more likely to succeed. Professional connections and the cash prize from the Cleantech Open will help us to fund marketing efforts for our existing products, complete development of our prototype formulations, and make our patents rock-solid. This will enable us to get to a stage that is attractive to strategic partners and investors, allowing us to reach the scale and impact we strive for.
Memorable Cleantech Open moment?
One word comes to mind: relationships. There have been so many interactions that have helped us in innumerable ways. Our mentor was our level-headed cheerleader and sounding board, often calmly fielding panicked questions that had little to do with the worksheets! He, like other less-formal mentors have been critical to our success. One mentor wasn’t afraid to proverbially “smack us around” and toughen up our model. Another offered insights on strategy, intellectual property, and negotiating strategic partnerships. One of our judges has been watching us from the beginning of the Cleantech Open, and may have connections to technical expertise and investment. A different judge offered to have some of his students work with us, and another person offered an introduction to someone with manufacturing expertise. Some semifinalists are more developed and offered us advice, and in turn, we could offer advice to idea-stage companies. Tremendous.
