Binishells may be the greenest way to build ever invented. Using air as their form work, Binishells are inherently green because they provide highly efficient building envelopes.
Faster, Greener and More Affordable
Buildings are by far the biggest polluter globally, contributing 40% of the world’s CO2, and using 40% of the world’s energy and 50% of our natural resources annually. At the same time, 1 out of 4 people in the world is homeless or living in sub-standard housing. The potential for a series of new and proven technologies which can house our growing homeless population far more safely, at 1/2 the cost and with 1/3 the environmental impact, is staggering.
How it changes the world
The Cleantech Open grand prize will provide critical seed money, enabling us to devote the resources necessary to finalizing major strategic partnerships internationally. This seed money will also multiply into triple bottom line returns by providing safe, affordable shelter to those in need around the world, whilst minimizing the impact buildings have on our environment. Further, the prestige and validation of the award will raise our brand profile, driving and supporting the success of our $7.5M Series A funding round.
If you win?
Winning at the Cleantech Open Global Forum will give us an international exposure that we can leverage very quickly. We are ready to expand to Europe, Asia and other regions thanks to a carefully planned IP strategy. It will also allow us to execute on our social mission to make this technology available for those who need it the most. The exposure from winning the global forum will open doors for us to execute on both these strategies.
Memorable Cleantech Open moment?
Binishells is my passion; the culmination of a dream I have had since graduate school, where my studies and thesis were on low-cost housing systems for the developing world. We have indeed had significant moments along the way, such as the opportunity to speak with President Clinton and to gain endorsements from the Clinton Global Initiative and the World Bank. Forbes Magazine also said we were one of 31 names to know this year. However, winning the regionals of the Cleantech Open was, without doubt, the most emotional moment of my professional career. In fact, during my acceptance speech, I was brought to tears. Symbolically, when I came off stage, a hearty shake from Erik Steeb and a warm embrace from Rex Northen further stoked my optimism about Binishells. I greatly admire and am thankful for all the Cleantech Open staff, founders, sponsors, mentors and contestants, and feel strongly that being selected for the Cleantech Open finals crystalized a momentum change in our company and in our broader quest to provide safer, more affordable, more environmentally sensitive housing to people in need.
